Dyson's Vacuum Cleaner Review

This is a vacuum cleaner review coming from a friend who was really dismayed about her experience with the product. We do not intend to convince you to share the same opinion in our reviews. The experience of the writer maybe far different from others. This is just for the sake of sharing her experience

In October my husband and I began having problems with our vacuum. After much discussion and weighing the pros and cons, we decided that we were going to go for a Dyson. We figured if we were buying a $200 vacuum and replacing it every two years, then why not buy a $400 vacuum with a 5 year warranty. We planned on watching ads and waiting for a good sale, but one Sunday as we were vacuuming, our vacuum took its last breath. Still needing to finish vacuuming, we set out on our Dyson buying Mission…or should I call it an ordeal.

We tried Linens and Things first because they were going out of business and offering up to 40% off. We got there and they had nothing. We moved on to Home Depot, but they wanted almost $500. We thought there had to be better deals than that and moved on. Next we headed to Kmart (we were getting desperate). They had the DC-14 model for $399 and we decided out of desperation to go for it.

When we got home we started checking the Sunday ads and found that Best Buy had some for $299. We held off on our vacuuming for the day, and the next day my husband returned the Dyson to Kmart. The price for Best Buy was on their website so we decided to call and make sure they were in stock and that they would honor the online price. They said yes, they had three in stock and would pull one for us. My husband drove 30 miles one way to pick up the Best Buy Dyson. While on his way there, a girl from Best Buy called me and said the Dyson’s they had in stock were opened, but had not been used other than to demonstrate and were in new condition. We agreed that that was fine. When my husband arrived at Best Buy he was shown the three Dysons…

All three were broken and the guy in the department told him they were the ones they used to clean THEIR floors!!! Very angry that the trip was made and these Dyson’s were misrepresented to us, my husband left and went to Target. They had the Dyson DC-14 for $359, so he bought it. By this point we decided this BETTER be the best vacuum on the market.

As soon as my husband got home, he wanted to vacuum. He kept saying it was making funny noises, but after reading the website info on the vacuum, he learned that on Berber Carpet sometimes the vacuum will make noises.

Fast forward to one week later, our fourth time using the vacuum…when the beater bar breaks. We are in disbelief. After EVERYTHING we went through to get it, it breaks on the fourth use. We load up the car, and go back to Target. We purchase another Dyson DC-14, hoping that this will be it. Well, we take it home and once again it (the new one) starts making terrible noises. My husband emailed the company and they replied that they could be called at such and such a number and they would discuss the problem. A few days later we call, and a man guides us through removing a piece that sometimes has trouble on certain floor types. After that it seems better, until….

A few weeks later when the noises start again, we decide that we have had enough. It was NOT worth all the trouble or money that we had wasted on it. We returned the vacuum to Target and went with the brand that for two years always leaves us happy…Bissell. We may have to replace it sooner, but hey, at least we will be headache free until then!
